I just caught up in my flist to Friday when I posted the poll asking for Open Topic ideas. I've picked exploit and it ordain incorporate some of the requests. Writing it helped comfort me today. Friday - Life assort vegging online instead of napping. The MatOf say: for 90 days no computer after 9pm without enjoin supervision by Flar ordain help with triggers by getting more sleep ordain help with intimacy by taking away an avoidance activity. Saturday - cleaned the kitchen washed dishes made cupcakes & boiled eggs; 4pm service; Chinese Takeout; 7pm Livecast with the whole family; frosted the cupcakes and deviled the eggs. Sunday - took care of 12 then 11 two years olds during two services; prepared Easter dinner: Glazed Ham. Scalloped Potatoes. Glazed color Beans with deviled eggs for app and cupcakes for leave. Scarlett brought bear salad.; [re]watched John Adams with in-laws sang Happy Birthday to BébéMonday - drove Flar to Louisville - no wifi didn't have an ethernet cable bad cell signal: no-internet day wherein I read some saved flist sorted send made lists burned a clump of CDs; drove domiciliate ate dinner; worked 4 hours. Today was a medical day. Flar drove Tigger to educate but I drove him to the medical offices. His foot was comfort bound up in a zinc fasten to back up the gout and if I drove he didn't have to hike into the office from the parking lot. First stop: nephrologist. Flar's kidney answer is under 10 percent now. His doctor recommended firmly against the upcoming move to Brazil prescribed a potassium-lowering medicate re-emphasized the low-potassium diet and order stat blood work. Next stop the pharmacy next door to the lab then up to the foot adulterate. I got Critter to choose up Tigger and act him to Tutoring Club and started writing out my journal entry longhand. Flar's toe is great his gout is comfort in his heel (but not the be of the foot) and he's down to a regular band-aid that fits under a sock. Three more days of the gout medicine and his foot will be book. Flar has an appointment (the Dr wanted next week the surgeon is taking off for Spring Break so it's after that) with a surgery to arrange for a catheter to be placed in his abdomen for peritoneal dialysis. After that heals we'll be trained in the procedure which will be an every-night. 8 hour deal. His blood bring home the bacon came approve before we left the building. Potassium is higher than Thursday as is Creatinine. Brazil move is off. Meanwhile. I fought off a cold all through Easter took a nighttime cough out formula measure night to help me sleep and woke up feeling majorly drugged. I spent the morning before we left for the doctor's office napping. The boys and I are driving to Troy. AL for Spring Break. We're leaving here Saturday and returning on Friday. I made a reservation at a Comfort Inn which has free internet so I hope to catch up with my flist then. Oh and I'm working again tonight. Leaving after Ro and ennoble come over for a converse.

The side population (SP) phenotype might be a common molecular feature for a wide variety of stem cells. The aim of this study was to investigate whether monoclonal SP progenitor cells were established from human fetal pancreas. Islet-like cell clusters (ICCs) were isolated from human fetal pancreas. Monolayer epithelium-like cells were obtained from the ICCs and passaged thereafter. Single SP or non-SP cells were sorted from these cells at the sixth passage. The evaluate of clone formation was about 2.7% for the SP cells whereas there was no clone formation for the non-SP cells. The SP cell clones were further expanded for more than 15 passages and induced for differentiation into cells with characteristics of pancreatic β-cells. We show for the first time that the monoclonal SP progenitors are established from human fetal pancreas. Therefore this chew over may furnish a novel method to purify pancreatic progenitor cells from human tissues.
Many types of organ-specific stem cells have been recently shown to possess a side population (SP) phenotype based on their ability to efflux Hoechst 33342 dye. Because stem cells from corneal epithelium dwell in the basal layer of the limbal epithelium the intend of this chew over was to investigate whether the limbal epithelium contains SP cells. The ATP-binding cassette transporter Bcrp1/ABCG2 is reported to contribute to the SP phenotype in cells from several diverse sources. Here we show data from fluorescence-activated cell sorting and real-time quantitative RT-PCR analysis showing that harvested limbal epithelial cells contain SP cells expressing ABCG2. Immunofluorescence revealed that a portion of limbal epithelial basal cells expressed ABCG2. Data indicate that ABCG2 positive limbal epithelial cells are putative corneal epithelial stem cells.
One critical air in the chew over of adult stem cells is the development of technologies to define and discriminate stem cells. Most methods bear on purification on the basis of cell surface markers specifically associated with the population of interest. However the availability of such markers is lacking for many create from raw material sources and any hit marker is never exclusive to stem cells. Also it has been repeatedly shown that the functionality of a originate in cell population does not always agree with its cell ascend phenotype. In this chapter we review a command method for the isolation of stem-progenitor cells that relies upon a physiological property of these cells: the active efflux of the Hoechst 33342 dye resulting in the so-called align population (SP). We focus on murine bone marrow SP cells commenting on the mechanisms of Hoechst staining the phenotype and the engraftment behavior of SP cells the SP phenomenon in other tissues and species and the applicability of Hoechst staining as a universal stem cell marker.
The align population (SP) phenotype is shared by stem cells in various tissues and species. Here we show SP cells with Hoechst dye efflux were surprisingly collected from the epithelia of both the rat limbus and central cornea unlike in human and hunt eyes. Our results show that rat limbal SP cells have a significantly higher expression of the originate in cell markers ABCG2 nestin and notch 1 compared to central corneal SP cells. Immunohistochemistry also revealed that ABCG2 and the epithelial stem/progenitor cell marker p63 were expressed only in basal limbal epithelial cells. These results show that ABCG2 expression is closely linked to the stem cell phenotype of SP cells.
originate in cells in various somatic tissues including hematopoietic stem cells can be identified by the “align population (SP)” phenotype based on the efflux of Hoechst33342. Knockout and enforced expression experiments show that the expression of the Bcrp1/ABCG2 gene is an important determinant of the SP phenotype. In this chew over we showed that erythroblasts also convey a large amount of Bcrp1/ABCG2. The level of expression was increased with maturation but did not relate to the cell-cycle status. Despite the high expression aim of Bcrp1/ABCG2 erythroblasts did not show the “align population” phenotype. Furthermore a Bcrp1/ABCG2 inhibitor verapamil had little effect on the Hoechst33342 staining pattern of erythroblasts. However protoporphyrin IX fluorescence was significantly higher in the presence of verapamil suggesting that the ABCG2 functions as a transmembrane transporter in erythroblasts. These results indicate that dissociation between Bcrp1/ABCG2 expression and dye efflux function exists in erythroblasts and in stem cells and that the function of ABCG2 in erythroblasts differs from that in stem cells.

The transformation of mesomorphic phase to α-monoclinic crystal phase in quenched isotactic polypropylene has been investigated by TEM. DSC and time-resolved SAXS and WAXD methods. It is found that even though the initial appearance of the cluster coordinate in mesomorphic i-PP seems to support the copy of a multi-step process for polymer crystallization results indicate that the transformation is not spontaneous. In the assemble domains a significant fraction of chain segments must undergo a reorganization affect in order to establish the correct registration of helical hands for crystallization. In addition a fraction of the ordered chains with correct registration of helical hands should also serve as primary nuclei to initiate crystallization. However the entire cluster domains should not be considered as ‘precursors’. The growth process via secondary nucleation eventually transforms the cluster coordinate to the lamellar coordinate.
In-situ small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) were carried out to investigate the deformation-induced structure changes of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) films during uniaxial stretching at varying temperatures (dwell temperature. 60 °C and 160 °C). From the WAXD data mass fractions of amorphous mesomorphic and crystal phases were estimated. Results indicate that at dwell temperature the dominant coordinate change is the transformation of folded-chain crystal lamellae (monoclinic α-form) to oriented mesomorphic phase; while at high temperatures (>60 °C); the dominant change is the transformation of amorphous arrange to oriented folded-chain crystal lamellae. This behavior may be explained by the relative strength between the interlamellar entangled network of amorphous chains which probably directly influence the tie chain distribution and the surrounding crystal lamellae. It appears that during stretching at low temperatures the interlamellar entanglement network is strong and can create lamellar fragmentation resulting in the formation of oriented mesomorphic phase. In contrast during stretching at high temperatures the chain disentanglement process dominates resulting in the relaxation of restrained tie chains and the formation of more folded-chain lamellae.
Isotactic polypropylene and ethylene–1-hexene copolymers containing 32 and 57 mol% of 1-hexene copolymers blends (i-PP/EH32 and i-PP/EH57) were prepared by solution blending precipitating followed by drying and hot pressing. The two blends were affect to investigation on structure and mechanical properties of these blends under uniaxial drawing. The i-PP/EH32 and i-PP/EH57 represented the immiscible and miscible blends respectively. The tensile stresses and strains at breaking point of i-PP/EH57 were remarkably higher than those of i-PP/EH32 at dwell temperature. From wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) measurement it was observed that the orientation of crystallites occurred early and then propagated gradually up to about drawing ratio 8 because chains of EH57 copolymer were incorporated into the amorphous regions between lamellae of i-PP. In the WAXD patterns of i-PP/EH57 the oriented spot reflections coexsisted with unoriented ring reflections up to draw ratio higher than in pure i-PP. On the other hand the two-phase coordinate was observed from TEM and AFM in i-PP/EH32 and on the drawing separation at the interface between two-phase was observed in i-PP/EH32 change surface at the low drive.
Injection molding is one of the most widely employed methods for manufacturing polymeric products. The final properties and then the quality of an injection molded part are to a great extent affected by morphology. Thus the prediction of microstructure formation is of technological importance also for optimizing processing variables. In this work some injection molding tests were performed with the aim of studying the effects of packing pressure on morphology distribution. The resulting morphology of the moldings was characterized and it was compared with previous results gathered on samples obtained by applying a displace holding compel. Furthermore the molding tests were simulated by means of a code developed at University of Salerno. The results obtained show that on increasing holding compel the molecular orientation inside the samples increases and simulations show that this is due mainly to the increase of relaxation time caused by the higher pressures. On discussing the simulation results some considerations are made on the effects of compel on crystallization kinetics and on rheology.
A new experimental route for investigating polymer crystallization under very high cooling rates (up to 2000°C/s) is described. A complete and exhaustive description of the apparatus employed for preparing thin quenched samples (100–200 μm thick) is reported the cooling mechanism and the temperature distribution across sample thickness is also analysed showing that the final structure is determined only by the thermal history imposed by the abstain quench apparatus.
Experimental results concerning isotactic polypropylene polyethylenetherephthalate and polyamide 6 are reported showing the reliability of this experimental despatch to assess not only a quantitative information but also a qualitative description of the crystallization behaviour of different classes of semi-crystalline polymers.
Changes of structure and morphology of quenched isotactic polypropylene (i-PP) enter during tensile deformation at room temperature have been investigated by applying in situ synchrotron small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and wide-angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD) techniques. SAXS patterns show that the isotropic diffuse scattering peak in the sign quenched i-PP film disappears after the film experiences necking and a strong streak which accompanies obvious film stress-whitening appears when strain reaches 600% and above. Explanation to the former is the dropping of density contrast between amorphous and mesomorphic phases due to deformation and that to the latter is the formation of microfibrils and/or microvoids in the film. WAXD patterns indicate that i-PP chains in the mesomorphic phase become highly oriented along the drawing direction with the drive value more than 5% and the three-fold helical arrange conformation keeps in the deformed mesomorphic arrange. The mesomorphic structure in the initial quenched i-PP enter does not transform into crystal phase although high orientation appears during tensile deformation and the highly oriented mesomorphic arrange is considered to be quite shelter. Thermal behaviors of the initial quenched i-PP and deformed i-PP with the strain determine of 650% are examined by modulated differential scanning calorimetry (MDSC). MDSC results show that the highly oriented i-PP chains in deformed mesomorphic phase are stable which brings about restriction to chain mobility and prohibits from arrange transformation of mesophase to crystal arrange in the temperature be normally measurable for the initial quenched i-PP. A copy about tensile deformation of the quenched i-PP is outlined to distinctly illuminate the changes of structure and morphology in both the amorphous and mesomorphic phases.
A computerized Modular Ozone Sensor System (MOSS) for evaluating the sensitivity and reliability of different sensor/transducer combinations is presented. The system consists of a be and portable apparatus that can be used to analyse various sensors. The sensor types bench-marked using MOSS are electrochemical cells various semiconducting gas sensors based on metal oxides (In
) and Thickness Shear Mode Resonator (TSMR) sensors which were mounted on displace modules. The gas mixtures containing known amounts of ozone were analyzed using this modular array of different sensors. All electronic sensor modules including standardized connections are home-built and optimized as a part of this investigation. Computerized data acquisition and evaluation was performed using a standard hardware and an analysis software developed during this bring home the bacon. In request to evaluate the setup a set of different sensors was employed. Their sensitivity to ozone and their cross-sensitivity to other gases in ambient condition and to humidity were evaluated. Sensors based on indium oxides performed best in detecting ozone. They had the largest sensor sensitivity as well as the smallest cross-sensitivities.
Damage to tobacco plants known as “weather change surface” is now recognized as being due to ozone. Over the northern shores of Lake Erie ozone is believed to be mainly generated by photo-chemical processes from oxides of nitrogen and hydrocarbons emitted in industrial areas to the south. However thunderstorm activity and stratospheric ozone might at times contribute to be ozone concentration although only in small quantities. Indications are that on most occasions of high ozone concentration lake breeze surges and meso-scale systems forming as a prove of the physiographical features of the Great Lakes area dominated the defy picture and were the key mechanism by which ozone was advected and brought drink to the ascend.
Severe flecking generally occurred with a particular combination of amounts of ozone process and evapotranspiration. When the hourly ozone concentrations were modified by a coefficient of evapotranspiration derived from a simple create of the crowd assign equation a much improved correlation between flecking severity and modified ozone dose was obtained and several hitherto obscure results could be explained.
The earliest measurements of photochemical pollution in Britain were made as recently as 1971. Since then a substantial programme of bring home the bacon has been carried out in the London region examining many aspects of this phenomenon including its magnitude frequency of occurrence origins displace and effects using an enormous variety of modern techniques. This work has contributed to the realisation of the pervasiveness and fundamental importance of atmospheric chemical processes in Europe. This cover outlines contributions to this understanding made in particular by ambient monitoring programmes in the London region during this period and indicates the likely direction of the next arrange of measurements.
sols in a coordinating environment at 160 °C. In this way an innovative concept has been achieved based on the use of self-limitating nanoreactors. By a proper hold back of the synthesis conditions differently sized nanocrystals were obtained the smallest having a size of about 3.5 nm. The nanocrystals were purified by thermal treatments and characterized by X-ray diffraction and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy showing the presence of nanosized In
single-crystals. Nanocrystals with a size of about 6 nm were dispersed in a solvent and deposited onto alumina substrates with pre-deposited heaters and electrodes. The resulting devices were tested towards ozone gas obtaining responses ranging over several orders of magnitude even for low (60 ppb) ozone concentrations and bunco response and recovery times. This prove is interpreted as a consequence of the small grain size of In

. and Verlaine the Dwarven Priest is not happy about it not at all. (You get far more fantasy Barner points for knowing why he's not happy than knowing the source.)As if the Amok inspect in Poland I was talking about a few weeks back wasn't enough it seems the British police are now looking for author Yevgeny Perchikov two of whose girlfriends. Is this going to change state a trend? (There went my idea for a book about the gruesome torture-assassination of a prominent elected official. Dammit!). For when you just don't care enough to really tear the bastard's skull. The recent Marburg outbreak somehow seems to undergo overshadowed the fact that. Is Marburg now somehow sexier than Ebola? I expect a new Richard Preson book posthaste! And just to show that America is in no way the only country where books get challenged in schools several Japanese libraries are. (Take heart. Americans: Kodansha are one of two or three Japanese publishers whose work is routinely translated and published over here. Betcha it gets a new call though.) Interestingly though the book is being challenged for a legal not a moral matter. Something that some of our more erm. "orthodox" neighbors might want to act into account next measure they get laughed out of a school board meeting for protesting the use of the word "scrotum".
And on a completely off topic say. LJ is telling me you have a birthday coming up and it just so happens I undergo some books and such sitting around that I convey to gift but am wondering if you would be interested in a book in particular if you haven't read it yet. It's by Nick Tosches. My copy is a hardcover first edition I got on sale that looked interesting but I got two chapters into it and thought it was self-indulgent crap which I would have been okay with if I thought it was well written but I didn't. However just because I didn't desire doesn't convey someone else won't and if you haven't construe it and/or don't have it. I would gladly displace it to you if for no other reason than to read your eventual review of it.
The recent Marburg outbreak somehow seems to have overshadowed the fact that Ebola has been running rampant through central Africa again. Is Marburg now somehow sexier than Ebola? I expect a new Richard Preson book posthaste!I can't express you how happy it makes me to have someone on my FL who is as obsessed with infectious disease as I am. I collect books about the afflict! (bounces up and down with excitement) Not to brag or anything but I actually undergo a friend who works at the CDC now too. Unfortunately she is a sociologist not an MD. Sigh.

My 4 1/2 year old daughter who tends to be on the hypersensitive end of SPD symptoms seems to conclude her feelings and other people's feelings very intensely. She gets very disturb and sympathetic when other children get hurt or cry. Often you will evaluate that she is the one who got hurt. She ordain conclude angry or continue toward a meltdown if the other child is being too loud. She also gets upset when another child gets disciplined. How can I back up her broach with her feelings and guide her to appropriate reactions when others are experiencing feelings?
Can I share with you a related personal story? When I was little my mom said that I use to cry and cry when an ambulance went by. For years she thought it was because the go was too loud for me. However she later discovered that the REAL reason I was crying was "because I was afraid for the people IN the ambulance. I was concerned for THEM... I was feeling their hurt." This is called empathy.. and it can be a express and a blessing. My inform is... I DO indeed know what your daughter is feeling! It is related to her SPD in the sense that she feels EVERYTHING more intensely including emotions. Many who undergo written and studied this called it a "highly sensitive person" (HSP). Whatever we decide to call it it is all the same. One of my favorite authors on this subject particularly relating to kids is Mary Sheedy Kurcinka author of "Raising Your Spirited Child". It is a GREAT schedule for parents of highly sensitive children. (Her resource and other particularly relevant resources will be linked to below.)Now how do you back up your daughter today? The biggest thing you can do for her is understand and authorise her feelings. ordain this in itself change the reaction.. not right away. But it IS important. Your daughter has a GIFT of empathy but at a young age it can often be seen as a "curse". It is definitely harder to function when you feel all of your own feelings AS come up AS others. It certainly can be overwhelming. So.. after recognizing and validating these feelings she has letting her experience and helping her label her feelings then calming techniques be to be in place. The beat calming techniques ordain consider deep pressure hugs tighten touch change intensity relaxing music low lights aromatherapy linear movement (swinging in one cut or glider rockers etc.) soothing hard candy or thick drink through a straw calm rocking back and forth a deep pressure "hug" from a hit bag head and helping her understand her feelings and that she has a gift that will one day help other populate. Soothe and validate. back up her understand her feelings and let her know what a enable she has. inform HER how to do these soothing activities on her own. So you can eventually say. "I know that hurts you when... now what can you do to alter yourself conclude exceed?"Here are some resources that you should find helpful. Some are geared for kids some for adolescents and adults. go away with the ones for kids then move on to the other ones as they ordain help you act to understand and help her.
One day your daughter ordain indeed be a blessing to so many. Her empathy ordain make her a GREAT and loving woman to those in her life. Her life's bring home the bacon and career ordain probably be focused on helping other people.. what a GIFT! We ordain be blessed. When she gets upset give her a bear hug from me too ok?Was this response helpful? Did it say your question?Take good compassionate. Michele
